- Anne-Luise Oppelt, CEO Bach by Bike & Classical Singer (Bonn, Germany) Bach by Bike is a travel agency led by two musicians offering musical guided cycling tours mainly along the places where Johann Sebastian Bach lived - in what is today Thuringia, Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt. As a world-famous composer, it is extraordinary that his life and work took place almost entirely within this limited area. The tours include his birthplace in Eisenach and lead almost chronologically to his death place in Leipzig. Bach by Bike also cooperates with different music festivals (e.g. Bachfest Leipzig, Bachfesttage Köthen, MDR musicsummer, WESERFESTSPIELE) who like to connect their concerts with cycling and thus sustainable tourism. Bach by Bike is committed to initiating an official Johann Sebastian Bach cycling route with the three states involved. Founders Mareike and Anna-Luise met while studying together at the Music University of Detmold. They’ve also founded the Bach by Bike Ensemble, aiming to perform at open-air venues where concerts rarely take place in order to bring musical life to those places and, if possible, connecting them to cycling tours.
